In plain words
Greed and suspicion keep growing more and more in us. Truly, for man suspicion is a huge, monstrous ghoul. It is a bottomless ocean. It lets neither sleep reach the eye nor food the stomach, and torments like a fiend. The reason for this is simply that spirituality has not taken root in the heart. Having gained so much knowledge and insight, in the very end we do not join the Divine but behave like devils.
If the young people of today go on doing their duty and tasting their own inner contentment, God's grace will be with them always. The young people of today are sunk in immorality. They try to point a finger at another's morals. Where is the right for one who walks the path of immorality to point to the morality and integrity of others? Because such learning is flourishing today, humanness itself is wasting away in the young moment by moment. Sai saw this state of things and, meaning to set forth the path of Satya as an ideal, has been establishing this college. In students the chief things are character and sacrifice. Sacrifice is like a golden key that opens the door of Mokṣa. This itself is the right mark of education. All students, old or new, must hold these two as their eyes and develop them. If we lose these eyes, we become blind. For your good, for your rise to a higher level, for your progress, for your guidance, Sai is doing everything. But because your fitness is very small, you may also read many wrong meanings into this. Spending so many crores of rupees to have buildings put up, to build hostels, to build this college: none of this is for Sai's sake. Though there are so many colleges in the world, we have gone on founding our colleges with this one aim, that students will be formed who give the world an ideal life.
Truly, if we practise the right karma and plunge into society and serve, we make our humanness worthwhile. Truly, if each of us tests himself to see whether humanness is in us, it is nowhere to be seen.
A teacher means one who gives; a student means one who receives. To give, the teacher must have some stock on hand, mustn't he! To receive, this fellow too must be ready, mustn't he! The student is not ready to receive. The teacher has no stock. The teacher must be like a water tank. The student must be a tap. Only when the tank holds water to the full does water come through the tap. But one more thing must be considered too. If the tank holds stinking water, that same water comes through the tap. So as the teacher is, so the student turns out.
Above all, laziness is growing more and more among students today. They will not do a naya paisa's worth of work. They say they want four hundred rupees in salary. The clothes they wear must not be ruffled in the least. They must sit under a fan that gives a cool breeze, or in an air-conditioned room. Sitting in comfort, they must earn thousands of rupees. Is there any path more wicked than this! This is nothing but a path that plunders the country. As the saying goes, ‘Move the arms and the belly is fed,’ yet we want money to come without working our hands to the full. Is this not greed! Who gives this money? ‘The government, the government,’ they say. Who gives to the government? The people, surely. So in the end all our learning leads us onto the path of plundering the people. Students! If you do not nurture such wicked ideas in your hearts, but live on money gained by toil, by labour, by the sweat of your brow, then your family, and you too, will enjoy wellbeing and happiness for ever.
