Passage 7

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

But unfortunately, because English education has spread, the girls of today have no idea what a kitchen is. They cannot bear the fragrance of the pūjā room. They do not understand at all what the cleanliness of a home is. How can such people understand what the culture of Bhārata is? The fear is growing in them that if they do housework their hands may get dirty and their clothes may be spoilt. They give their mother no help at all in the work of the house. From the moment they get up in the morning they waste time just setting their dress right. More than this, they also take part in unseemly acts. In our culture of Bhārata, the hair is very sacred and very powerful. A great power is held in a woman's hair. Women who after marriage should be auspicious are making themselves inauspicious. They are cutting their hair. This is what women without husbands are to do. This brings ill omen upon the culture of Bhārata. It is a sin even to look upon the face of such girl students! Our girl students, at any rate, must not enter on such a wrong path. These are the bad marks of today's education. Girl students must develop this culture of ours, enter society, and give others a life that is an example.

The inner meaning of the culture of Bhārata is Sanātana Dharma

The culture of Bhārata never changes. It does not change with the passing of time, it does not fade with the course of history, it does not diminish though dissolution comes, it does not grow with creation; it stays always in a state that is eternal. The inner meaning of this culture of Bhārata is Sanātana Dharma. This Sanātana Dharma is the life of the whole world. Though the ages change and the worlds move, this does not change. It stands in a state beyond place, time and person. It concerns not only the people of Bhārata but the entire universe.
