In plain words
Is the one who says all these are fools a clever man? He himself is the fool. In those days Tyāgarāja too thought the same. He thought Lakṣmaṇa was a fool. He thought Bharata was a fool. He thought Lakṣmī, being only a woman, was also of somewhat lower standing. But none of these was ordinary. Afterwards he was grieved, thinking, "I am the fool."
While all such as these regarded God's presence as the greatest treasure and were absorbed in service, we waste our lives with needless fancies and try to move away. We must try to make sacred the time that has come to us. We must make such sacred opportunities fruitful. Today is a sacred, great holy day. The sun is travelling from the south to the north. This is what they called devayāna. That is, the journey towards the Paramātma. If, along with that sun, we turn our minds too onto the devayāna, our birth will be fulfilled. I hope that from today you will set your feelings on the sacred spiritual path, and, without the least lapse in the daily tasks of daily life, carrying out your duties well, developing in your hearts the aim "this is for this world, that is for the next", bearing the two kinds of learning as two roles, you will reach the divine goal and a blessed life.
