Passage 1

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

Learning has grown manifold and desires have passed all bounds; heroes in speech, zeroes in work. However much cleverness you have, what is the gain if you do not practise even a little? The learning of today sharpens cleverness but does not grow virtue even a little; learning without virtue is learning without aim. What more than this can I make known? Why do you hunt about, asking where God is? The Lord is in the heart. Give service; receive Prema; here I make known the principle of the divine.

Girl students! Teachers! Lovers of learning! Patrons of learning!

As scientific knowledge grows, man keeps forgetting God, his Lord. In the research and enquiry of today, to forget humanness, keep only philosophy in view and forget sacred divinity is the perverted path of education. To forget the truth that education is what makes a man compassionate, to dedicate life to selfishness and self-interest alone, and so make sacred humanness useless, is not the right duty. Reaching the moon today is a great victory indeed!
