Passage 5

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

Individuality is that which makes us recognise the truth and the goal. The person who makes manifest the divinity that lies hidden and unmanifest in man is the true individual. Every man must make such individuality fruitful. They called this individuality pauruṣa. This is what they called personality. We must recognise well the principle of this person. The principle of a portion of the divine is what this person is. In the Roman language, to show the truth that this divinity has taken the form of a portion in every man, they have called this very word persona. That divinity is in all. We must recognise such divinity.

When man wastes his time only in eating, sleeping and the like, when will he make his humanness fruitful? Studying is not only for taking up jobs. We must truly develop individuality. We must win for ourselves the strength to stand on our own feet. We must be ready to give up our blood, our strength, all we have, for the welfare of the country, and provide it with the protection it needs. That is true education. Spiritual education. This spiritual education shows the chief ideal for sacrifice, for yoga and for action.

Man must gain knowledge joined with Viveka

A man must have an aim. But man neglects it. What is the aim? To recognise one's own nature. We say, "This is my hand, this is my leg." Then "Who am I?" What use is there if we cannot recognise that truth? We must try to recognise such truth well through small, simple words. Today science has grown far and wide. There are many learned people, in Bhārata and all over the universe, who have come to know many secrets in it through research. But when we ask what has been achieved by it in the end, it has turned out to be only harm to the country and no help.
