Passage 3

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

One can never be educated merely by holding positions or merely by explaining the meanings of words. Education must make the door of the heart open. Education that does not increase the wealth of moral and spiritual character is no education at all. It is only because such purity has gone far away today that unrest, wrong, evil ways and Asatya are spreading wherever one looks. What is the reason for this? We teach scientific knowledge, but what truth is being shown through that scientific knowledge?

We must recognise the truth that education is for nourishing virtue, for teaching right knowledge and for bringing forth wisdom. One must be able to rely on one's own strength. One must have knowledge of the world and be able to show it as an example. Such education is needed today. But who is responsible for the harm done to such education today? Some say the students themselves are the cause. But that is not right. The teachers who cannot understand the students' minds, the students who do not obey the teachers' commands, the governing bodies who cannot see the difficulties of these two, the government that cannot relieve the governing bodies' troubles in time: all are responsible! It is only because no one sets about solving the problems in time that unrest is growing. The students fall upon the teachers. The teachers criticise the governing bodies. The places of learning are turning into mansions of unrest. Using this situation, politicians enter into it. Besides this, evil forces too join in. For all these reasons the field of education is turning into a battlefield. In the end the police come onto the scene and close the places of learning. Who is responsible for this sorry state? The mother and father who bore them? The teachers who make the Buddhi blossom? The managements who should look after the running of things properly? The government that wastes time without solving problems in time? Or is it the influence of those who write the textbooks? All of them are at fault! The fault in this is that each one cannot carry out his own duties.
