In plain words

If the daughter-in-law is dark…

If education takes the wrong path, the whole country takes the wrong path. There is a proverb in Telugu: "If the daughter-in-law is dark, the whole family turns dark, it seems!" To the house called the system of education, to the nation, education is the daughter-in-law. If education is not on the right path, the country itself declines. If the students are in the right state, there is every chance to make the country's future grow. So everyone must take due care, without any neglect at all, in the matter of the system of education. In this there is great need to look into the government's policy. Each time a new minister comes, the method keeps changing to a new one. It is because of these changes that the hearts of students come to be largely given to agitation. They do not follow the method of solving problems in time. By that the students' growth declines. We must give the students the enthusiasm they need. In My view there is no fault in the students. They are like the boulders on the hills. Whatever form the sculptor gives, the rock takes on that form. The teachers are the sculptors. When the parents at home and the teachers at school set the right example, there is no chance at all for the students to go wrong.

Our life is like a tree. Kinsmen and friends are like its branches and twigs. The root that supports it is our faith. Thoughts are the flowers; the fruit is Ānanda. The sweet juice in the fruit is character; if the root called faith, called character, is missing, the very tree called life goes to waste. There is one teaching above all that we must give the students. Neither students nor teachers must enter politics. After finishing their studies they may take up any path by their own strength and their own judgement. There will be no objection at all to that. It is not that politics is bad; it is good! It raises up the country! But while one is at the stage of a student, one must not enter politics.
