In plain words
If they pay fees and we develop the institution with that money, we become puppets in their hands. When there is no tie of money, they stand as puppets in our hands. Then we can train them in the right way. We can cultivate in them the qualities that heighten moral and spiritual wealth and the wealth of character. Lately they have put moral instruction classes into the schools. Moral instruction in name. What they teach in those classes is not known. We must try to teach not mere learning but morality and honesty too.
We must foster Prema in students from childhood. It is through Prema alone that unity grows. Without Prema, hatred spreads. Today the unlettered man is not doing so much harm. It is the educated who are harming the country. They are kidnapping their fellow human beings. They are committing robberies. They are hijacking aeroplanes and other vehicles. Are not all of these educated people? Is this the culture that education teaches? No, no. We must uplift mankind. ‘Paropakārārthamidaṃ śarīraṃ’: this body has come into being for the sake of helping others. By Prema, through Prema, we must attain Prema. There is not one thing that cannot be achieved with Prema. My very nature is Prema! By My Prema I am in Ānanda always. There may be those who hate Me. I have no hatred for anyone. If they have hatred, let them keep it; one hand clapped alone makes no sound. When two hands meet there is a sound. In no corner of Me is there hatred. So there is no unrest or disturbance of any kind in Me. Prema is humanness. Humanness is Prema. It is by Prema alone that we must develop education. We must develop children well and make them into those who will uplift the Bhārata of the future.
