Passage 10

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

‘My father paid three lakhs.’ The only thought he has is how to get these three lakhs back. As soon as he passes and takes up work, he falls to earning money, for the money that was paid and on top of that for daily life. He starts on bribes. The cause of this is ourselves! From childhood we must guard him so that vile feelings do not enter his heart.

One system of education for the whole country

Besides this, there are two main points we must adopt in the method of education. In each State they are adopting a different method. The system of education must be the same throughout Bhārata. People in Madras State may move to Karnataka State for reasons of work. The father who has been transferred can neither take the children with him nor leave them there. If education is the same everywhere, the student will have no difficulty of any kind wherever he goes. What are the methods we must adopt for this? Principals and Vice-Chancellors must inquire into this carefully. Examinations must begin in the first week of April and be completed by the 20th. Corrections must be finished in the first week of June. They must announce the results in the second week. If we follow this method well, the student will try to go on to some post or some course. Instead, results come out at a different time in each State. For a student of one State there is no chance at all of getting a seat in another State. On some occasions the student, finding a seat nowhere, has to waste a year's time. If all the Vice-Chancellors think about this matter and draw up the right method, they will have done the students a great service.

Another matter. Education and money must have no connection whatever. Do not take it otherwise. There is no avoiding telling the truth as it is. From this June, education in our University is free. By teaching free of charge, we can set children right in the proper way.
