In plain words
Udaṅka, bowing to his guru's command, went to a certain place for the task he had to accomplish. There two persons were weaving with threads of black and white. Close by was a wheel with twelve spokes. Six persons were turning it without rest. ‘Who could these be?’ Udaṅka wondered. He called to mind the Vedic ślokas. These two persons are Vidhi and Vidhātā. If there were no Vidhi and Vidhātā, humanness would have no meaning at all. They are weaving with white and black threads as warp and weft. What are these? Night and day. Day is white, night is black. These two they weave as warp and weft. The wheel with twelve spokes is time made up of twelve months. Six seasons turn this wheel of time of twelve months. What we must recognise here is that if there were no night and day, months themselves would not come about. Without months, seasons would not arise at all. Without seasons, the world would not move on. All these are the form of time. They concluded that He who came into being to protect this world, to nourish it, rule it and raise it up is the One whose form is the year. The belief of Bhārata is that, as a coin has two faces, time has two forms. One is the form of the world, the second is the nature of the world. This form of time is made up of the two, form and nature.
With today the year named Akṣaya has begun. This Akṣaya holds both kṣaya and akṣaya together. ‘A’ means the form of the Ātma, which is eternal. Kṣaya means the form of the jīva, which undergoes change. Akṣaya means ‘the form of jīva and Īśvara’: that is its meaning. That which is not eternal. In a single word both kṣara and akṣara, that is, the eternal and the transient, are contained. Humanness is made up of kṣara and akṣara. What is kṣara? What is akṣara? We must try to recognise this truth. People of Bhārata and foreigners alike have given these months and seasons certain bases and have gone on using them so. Whatever the months, their names are filled to the full with the nature of divinity. In the names of the months, January, February, March, April, May, June and the rest, there are names of gods, names of kings, and some numbers.
