In plain words
Because of this the study may not even happen, and illnesses may set in. Gradually, by reading with artificial lights, the retina in the eyes may be harmed. This artificial electric light harms the retina a great deal. We must try to read in natural light. Some people make a habit of studying at night. They think that this alone makes the memory grow. This is only imagination, delusions formed by habit. With this kind of effort they lose their health in the future. Others again say they cannot go out at daybreak unless they first smoke something. These too are only feelings inside a kind of bad habit; they too can never be natural. Some people lose what is natural through these habits of one kind or another, in many ways, in their speech, their play, their gestures and their gait. This just goes on mechanically. This is not right. In their talk, and in their speeches too, many people use but, but, you see, you see, so, so, so, and all things like these. All these are bad habits formed by a kind of practice. you see, you see, what? Where is the you see? What does it mean? Some people have certain kinds of habits. At the time of speaking, doing like this (shrugging the shoulders). This too is chief among the bad habits. No such defects should arise among students. I see many students who keep jiggling their legs as they talk and talk. This is very wrong. Some just keep swinging their legs, and in this way too these are among the bad habits of certain kinds. These happen mechanically; they do not come naturally. So today's education too goes on mechanically. If education is mechanical, it is of no use at all to the world. It must come from the heart. We must offer it in experience. We must put it into practice. Only the education that lies in practice is true education.
So first of all students must try to recognise the relation of the Ātma-principle with the feeling "I". As long as this "I" is there, the world is sorrow. We cannot drive it away at all. A small example. In sleep we have no thought "I".
