Passage 3

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

Every thought has a name. Every thought has a weight. Every thought has a colour. Every thought has its consequence. Every thought is charged with power. So a thought is not merely letters written on white paper. It goes through many kinds of change. They take on many forms as well. As time and occasion require, they increase the force of these thoughts. According to place, time and person, their own thoughts turn very pure. For these thoughts, thoughts themselves are the doers; thoughts themselves are the causes. For this tree of worldly life, with its many branches, leaves, flowers and fruits, this mind itself is the root and support. Every thought goes out through the eye. Between these eyes and the thoughts of the mind, instruments called wires have formed, making this possible. People generally think that the eyes see. But the eyes are not seeing. The eyes can see only because the mind enters the eyes. We think the ears are able to hear. The ears too have no power to hear. Only when the mind enters the ears can these ears hear. In the same way, with all the senses too, the mind is the support, the mind is the thread, the mind itself is the cause, and it gets work done through all the senses. Here is a small example of this. In the palaces of old, all the queens lived in what was called the queens' quarters. These buildings called the queens' quarters had no windows. There were only tiny little holes. The queens in these quarters watched the whole outside world through this little hole. Buses, cars and cycles moving along the road, people too, all manner of wonderful sights, they watched only through this little hole. But the outside world could not see these queens. Who could see the queens? Only the maids who lived in the inner palace, and the king, could see the queen. In the same way, the mind is the queen living in the queens' quarters. This mind sees the whole world. But this world cannot see the mind. Then who are the maids who see this mind? The thoughts themselves. Through the zeal and urging of these thoughts alone, the mind goes on doing its own work. Who is this king? It is the "I" itself. It is aham itself. The king called aham and the maids called thoughts can see the form called the mind from right beside it.

So this mind is formed through thoughts alone.
