Passage 4

In plain words

These thoughts come from the influence of the "I" called aham. This "I" called aham comes forth from the Ātma. So the Ātma, aham and the mind are bound together in close kinship. One can readily draw thoughts that are alike. That is, samapolikalu, equal thoughts. Some examples. Some birds do not join other birds; they travel apart as a flock of their own. That is, the thought of those birds is made of thoughts of a like kind. A flock of cranes all goes its own way and does not join a flock of crows. A flock of crows goes its own way and does not join the cranes. So too with the animals. Elephants do not join bisons. Bisons do not join elephants. Deer do not join either of these two. The reason is that only thoughts that are alike are drawn to one another in this way. A singer attracts only another singer; he does not attract anyone else. A teacher tries to make friends with another teacher. What is the reason? It is the influence of these like thoughts. So a human being's thoughts and second thoughts are strange and manifold. All in all, one can say that the whole of creation is nothing but the form of thoughts. The eye has a very small opening. But so small an eye can see a vast world. That is, it sees just as the queen in her quarters could see the world through a small hole. Even that sight can see only by the support of the mind. When your eyes are open but your mind is thinking about something somewhere, these eyes cannot see even a small object right in front of them. So the eyes are not what sees. The ears are not what hears. With the outer sight we recognise only these senses, but when we look with the inner sight, through the influence of thought the mind's own light makes these senses work.

As the thoughts, so the results. This never fails. Today or tomorrow, there may be some difference in time, but we cannot escape receiving the form that is this thought's effect. That is why we must develop good thoughts. We must foster pure feelings. We must develop divine thoughts. Here is a small example of this. Thinking of harm to others, wishing harm to others, we may form many thoughts. Thinking is easy, but bearing it is very hard.
