In plain words
She could not bear the sight as Jamadagni's throat was being cut: "Rāma! Rāma! Rāma!" In this way she called twenty-one times. When He came home and looked, there in the hermitage lay His father's body and head apart. This was the cruel deed of Kārtavīrya's son. "If I am to bring peace to My mother's heart, then as many times as she called Me, so many times will I make war on these kṣatriyas and destroy every one of them," He vowed. So He made war twenty-one times, won the whole kingdom and destroyed all the kṣatriyas. Then, cooling His fury and His anguish a little, He came to His father and prayed. When He prayed, the father's forefather (theirs was the line of Bhāradvāja), Bhāradvāja, came, joined the father's head to the body and gave him back his life. (Jamadagni.) He felt that the work He had come for was done; then, as He had no wish to rule, He gave away the whole kingdom He had won as a gift to a brāhmaṇa named Kaśyapa, the whole kingdom. He felt it was not Dharma for Him to stay in the place He had Himself given away. That is why this Paraśurāma searched the sea, raised a bank there and built a village within that bank. That is Paraśurāma Kṣetra. In the south of Bhārata, Kerala won fame by the name of Paraśurāma Kṣetra. He went to the mountain Maheśa close by and sat there doing tapas. That too lies within this very land of Kerala. So the land of Kerala is a very holy land.
This Onam came about at just the right time. The rains set in and pour down in torrents for three months. In Kerala, with this rain, all of Prakṛti comes to something of a standstill. Even sunrise is rare. When these rains stop and the sun's rays make Prakṛti pure, the land is radiant wherever you look, with green crops and with the look of the blue clouds. So this is the time when Prakṛti too rejoices. The time of this Onam is a lovely chance when Prakṛti takes on Her natural beauty and gives the people, too, a joy as natural. The land is very beautiful with its cattle and crops, its wealth and grain, its fruits of every kind. At this time you must see that land of Kerala before you can speak of it; it cannot be described.
