In plain words
It need not have a lifetime. Even after a lifetime we can experience it. How so? Here is another example of this. Ghaṇṭasāla used to sing sweetly. But he died and was reduced to ashes. Yet even today we can hear his voice clearly. If a tape recording of his songs is played on, say, Madras radio, we can hear it here too. What is the reason for this? These sound waves are joined with electric waves. These waves last for any length of time, for any number of yugas. These waves were there even before these people discovered them. All the waves pervade everywhere. All the sounds pervade everywhere. But only where one's citta is pure are these waves heard. They are seen. Are these songs sung in Delhi heard in a home that has no radio? Or again, even in a home that has a radio, if you put on the Madras station instead of the station where Delhi is singing, will you hear it? So only when we set the station on which he is singing to the right tune can we hear him. In the same way, the divinity that pervades everywhere: when we put on the switch called concentration in the radio called our citta and sink into the Ānanda called divinity, that divine principle becomes clear to us.
So not even one of our sound waves goes to waste. These sound waves fill everywhere. We must turn them into waves of light. That itself is the power of dhyāna. That itself is the power of yoga. The Gopīs gained this kind of darśan precisely because they experienced such power and rejoiced in it. Their cittas were always bound fast either to God's form or to His Name. So no one has any right at all to look for Reason in waves of Bhakti of this kind. Experiences like these are beyond reason. Pratyakṣa pramāṇas are not possible for everything. When pratyakṣa pramāṇas cannot work at all even for the small things of the world, how could proof measure up to the principle of God, which is divine, which is the principle of the Ātma? This is merely the nature of Ajñāna. So one who has understood this spiritual principle does not enter on a futile path of this kind.
