In plain words
Each one's feelings of Bhakti are known only to himself. Each one's Bhakti and prapatti are understood only by himself. It is very hard for one person to understand another's Bhakti and prapatti.
The grace of God is ever present everywhere, full and abundant. But we do not turn our heart straight towards it. We have not filled our heart full with that holy divinity. That is why at every step we have nothing but suspicions. Every moment we have nothing but doubts. Man cannot trust even himself. Can man, who cannot trust nara for four minutes, trust Nārāyaṇa? So the faults lie only in our trust; in God no change or addition of any kind comes, nor is there any. We must have faith, firm faith. We must not change from moment to moment. One who lacks such purity of citta, however long he wanders, whatever sādhanas he does, cannot receive the grace of God at all.
God examines only the heart; He does not look at your pūjās and rituals. Even if you do no pūjā, even if you do no dhyāna, only when you keep your purity of citta as it should be does God enter into it. As our student said yesterday: first, You are mine; second, if You are mine, I could turn into an egoist. I am Yours. The Gopīs prayed, ‘We are Yours.’ The Yādavas believed, ‘Kṛṣṇa is ours.’ Through this very belief, ‘He is ours,’ Ahaṅkāra grew. Wherever there is Ahaṅkāra, the man falls headlong. That is why the pestle was born in the Yādava clan. However much time passed, the Gopīs who prayed, ‘Lord, we are Yours,’ enjoyed welfare and happiness for ever. That is why I told all the children, the day before yesterday, in three charming sentences. Do not try to walk in front of Me. Don't walk infront of Me. I may not follow. Do not walk behind Me, I may not lead. Walk beside Me and be My friend. If you try to walk in front of Me, you may show even Me the wrong road. You do not know the way. Or again, if you try somehow to follow Me from behind, you may give Me the slip and go off. Come right beside Me. There will be no chance to slip away, nor for you to go ahead on the wrong road. because I am with you. I am right there with you. That is, what is the inner meaning of this? You and I are one. That is, divinity is present everywhere. In every body He is the one who dwells in the body. In every form He is the one embodied in it.
