Passage 1

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

Good qualities, a good mind, devotion to Satya, Bhakti, order, discipline, the keeping of duty: what teaches these is education; this the student must learn. The path that makes Satya known is the word of Śrī Sai. The strength of wealth, the strength of the body are of no use for learning Bhakti and Mukti; even the strength of learning is nowhere to be seen; the strength of God alone brings a man to the shore.

Students! Teachers! Lovers of learning!

In this world, the human body is a wonderful machine. This body is nothing but a union of diverse natures, limbs and parts. All of them keep working, one cooperating with another. If any limb or any part fails to submit to cooperation and goes its contrary way, a man's very health declines. In the same way, since there are diverse individuals in a society, in a race, in a country, when they give their experience joyfully to the world through the unity and cooperation of all, peace and security grow in the world. When unity declines in man, when he sets cooperation aside and behaves with contrary feelings, when he cannot carry out even his own duty, the world has to suffer many hardships and losses.

The wise know well that problems which plunge every thinking man into confusion abound today in the field of education. The responsibility of shaping every field that man follows in daily life, making it strong and useful, lies with the students. But the effort to hand on such a responsibility to the citizens of the country and, through them, to bring human values to light has dwindled away today. Because Lakṣmī Devī has entered the hermitage of Sarasvatī, the state of these educational institutions has been running along such perverted ways. The sacred, stainless, selfless, steady heart of boys and girls is today festering with impurity, wasting away and caving in.
