Passage 12

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

We must set mind, speech and body to sacred work. This is the chief sādhana to be practised today.

Embodiments of Prema! The principle of God has emerged in you. We must not think that we have entered this world merely from the principle of the divine Ātma. Nor must we think that we are entering the Ātma from Prakṛti. The Ātma is not something that enters, nor something that goes aside. It is that which is everywhere. This principle of the Ātma alone is with us, beside us, at home with us, guarding us as the eyelid guards the eye! For this Ātma there is no state of coming and going. This principle of the Ātma is the principle that witnesses all. It cannot be understood by words alone. It must be reached by practice and by experience. Hoping that you will reach this Ānanda of the Ātma, experience it, make it grow and share it with the world, I bring My talk to a close.

I hope that in these three days you will think well about such matters as how, in keeping with the times, we should help the people, how we should teach them, how the doubts that are in the people are to be removed, how the principle of the Ātma is to be set firm in them and how it is then to be nourished, and that, without wasting the time on speeches alone, you will decide in this meeting on fitting openings and ways to spread and teach the principle that is eternal, true and everlasting. Our aims can win on every side. There is no need to doubt this in the least. We must not be weak. We must try to achieve this through self-confidence alone. From now on in the programme, great souls connected with your meeting will offer you ideals of many kinds and will teach you. I very much hope that, beyond teaching and offering these, new methods too will be developed, and that in the days ahead the unrest that has spread through society will be checked to some extent and Ānanda given.
