In plain words
Ten or fifteen letters come every day. The wardens and the teachers too are ready to smooth this over somehow and explain it away to Swami! What is more, they try to patch it up, saying, “They talk that way so as to say they will come here to see Swami morning and evening.” That is not it; the cause lies within. None of them sees it. There is no proper management there. One small example: five students are going for the N.D.A. examinations. When they go, is there no need to tell Swami? They gave the order from there itself and sent them off. All these people are cutting away the bond between Swami and the students. In the college the professors give permission. In the hostel the warden gives permission. Then there is no need to come to me. They do not understand with how much Bhakti, how much Prema, how much faith the parents send their children to Swami. Whether the parents would like those boys to join the military or not, if you just give permission and send them off, whose is the responsibility, yours or mine? Even those who studied for big M.A.s and B.A.s stay on in that line with no advancement of any kind. That being so, if you send small boys in the Intermediate there, what work will they do? They will carry corpses, like sepoys. That is all their work! Why send them for such a thing? Here the students must study at least up to the post-graduate level. Only then are their parents happy. We too are glad. Instead, giving permission to all these small boys, “You need no permission from Swami, you need not come to Swami, you need not tell Swami,” and sending them off. Who gave you these powers? When all affairs go on in such disorder, it pains me deeply. Whose hostel is it? Is it not ours? Have they not even this much sense of responsibility? “How are we to bring up the students, how are we to deal with them?” They do not know. They must love these students more than their own children. They must look, at least to some extent, into these students' sufferings.
