Passage 11

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

We must go on developing this. To say of oneself, “Our department lacks this, lacks that”: this is a great disgrace. You must not speak like that. Give proposals. We will give. Without a proposal, we cannot give even one naya paisa. What are you there for? Why should you not prepare these proposals? What do we pay you salaries for? You must do your duty well. So, if we set up all these committees and do this in the right way, how ideal our Institute will be! You need not worry at all about money. I am ready to give however many lakhs are needed. But you must ask in the right way. You must receive in the right way. No one must give orders on his own for anything he names. All of you hold a meeting, look into what is needed, and give it at one time. We can have everything brought in at one time. If one professor asks for one thing, another dean asks for another, and another lecturer asks for another, how are we to bring it all in! There must be a connection between this and that, mustn't there? Make a good plan and give it, in a way that lets us get everything at one time. So we must discuss all these matters in this academic committee. Whatever we do, we must set a fitting aim for the uplift of the children. But whoever is in whatever place, each must keep up the dignity of his own place. We must conduct ourselves in a way fit for that respect. Along with Rights we have Responsibilities too. These two must walk like two feet. Only when the train runs on two rails does it reach its safety in proper order.

Fourth, the library committee. In this library committee, to some extent: which is useful to us, which useless, which is necessary to us? Which is unnecessary to us? Now a hundred and twenty magazines come from foreign countries. Eighty magazines come from our India. Are all these magazines of any help to the children or not? Are they of any use to the teachers or not! However many are useful, take them, gladly. How much do we lose by taking those that are not needed? So all of you here must get together, find out, and take only what we need. For my nature is like that. I do not like waste in even one small thing. I am always perfect. Look at one small matter. There is a tumbler. Rādhākṛṣṇa too knows it. I drink water once. After drinking there is water left over. I do not throw this leftover water away. Because this throwing away is waste, I leave it as it is, put a lid on it and drink it another time. Not water alone. Current, or any other thing of any kind, I waste nothing.
