In plain words
So only when some five or six get together and decide on a right way for this too will the children make good progress. It will be ideal in every way. So there must certainly be a library committee.
Next, sports and cultural activities: for these two together there is one committee. Here our children must understand well. What did they set up games for? The evil feeling, “We must compete with others, defeat them, and win,” must not come into us. In other places they encourage sports a great deal. Because if a student of their college wins world fame in sports, that is a great value for that college. We do not need names like that. This is simply going the way of a business type. We play games for all of us, for our joy, for our health. We must experience this joy. We must gain health. In this, we must not compete with one another and win these contests out of hatred. Whenever they compete, difference comes. This competition, at least, must not be there. They must decide what we are to do for health and which games to have them play, and you must work out in the committee what equipment these games need and what indoor games need. Games are very necessary for children. Otherwise, if they eat and sit, they can do no work at all. “Uḍupi Kṛṣṇa! I cannot lift the weight of my belly; what shall I do?” he said, it seems. When this belly grows heavy, how can they do any work? They cannot study. In this, every student must take part in games. So we must decide well on a fitting committee for this, and see that through it they go on regularly.
Next, sixth, the Hostel committee. There must be a committee in this hostel too. Because the children are so many, even those who look after them cannot manage. A small example: all our children, a hundred per cent, are in this hostel. At such a time, if the boys have an illness or catch some disease, if they are hurt or something else untoward happens, there is a reason for their not coming to the Institute. With no illness, no disease, no pain, no reason at all, what is the reason for not coming to the Institute? Many children are absent. You may think: Sai Baba is somewhere. He goes about somewhere. He is seeing devotees or something. No. No. I am watching every small matter. You may think that Sai Baba does not know what has to do with education. It is not that I say it out of Ahaṅkāra. There is not one thing in this world that I do not know. That is Awareness of life.
