In plain words
Good times, good positions, a good life: these are what men keep asking for; they do not ask for good thoughts, wisdom, good conduct.
Do you know why you were given eyes? To look at everything? No, no: to see with your own eyes the God of gods, the Lord who dwells on Kailāsa.
Why were you given feet so fair? To wander the lanes and the byways? No, no: to come to the temple of the Lord who rides the bull Nandi.
Embodiments of Prema!
What the country needs today is an ideal. Divine ideals for society are what the world needs most urgently today. In one matter, in one field, one person may become an ideal. But a person who is an ideal in every field is rare in this world. That comes to none but God alone; to others it does not come. The one who showed the ideal in politics, in society, in Dharma and in the spirit, who made the principle of Prema known to the world in many ways, and who showed that He Himself was a divine form, was Śrī Kṛṣṇa Paramātma.
Many people argue back and forth that Kṛṣṇa was only a man mad for war, and not simply a man of Prema. Kṛṣṇa was one who longed for peace. Such a divine principle is not something everyone can recognise. Today people have learnt only to believe in God as God and to worship Him, but they make no effort to recognise the ideal humanity that is in God. Only when man recognises the humanity in Mādhava, who was born among men and took a human form, can he make his own life worth while. Let us consider a little where these marks of the human ideal are to be found in Kṛṣṇa.
The Mahābhārata war was raging fiercely.
