In plain words
What is a vision? When all that covers it is taken away, that form appears as the form itself. You need not go somewhere and do sādhana. All the sādhanas you do are not for God. They are to wipe away the dirt that has gathered on your mind. If you wipe away the dirt that has gathered on the mind, you show yourself to be God Himself. Many people say, "The search for the Ātma, the search for the Ātma." There is no need to search. Because: antarbahiśca tat sarvaṃ vyāpya nārāyaṇa sthitaḥ. When Nārāyaṇa alone is wherever one looks, where else is there to go and search? What is everywhere is the Paramātma alone. Where is there to search for Him? Only one who has forgotten himself fails to hold firm faith in God.
This Ahaṅkāra enters into men and throws man into confusion in many ways. Where did this Ahaṅkāra come from? It was born of the Ātma itself. From this Ahaṅkāra was born the Manas. From this Manas was born speech. So the son of the Ātma is the "I". The Manas is the grandson. To this Manas, speech is the great-grandson. So the Ātma, the "I", the Manas and speech are all of them the principle of the Ātma. So our speech must not be thought of as merely our speech. Speech itself they called the Ṛgveda. This speech is God's great-grandson. In this speech too the qualities and virtues of God are always there. In the Manas, the father of this speech, the very qualities and virtues of God are there. In the "I", the father of this Manas, too, the very qualities and virtues of God are there. The father's property comes to the son. The son's property goes to the grandson. So the son who is the "I", the grandson who is the Manas, and the great-grandson who is speech go on sharing this very property of God.
Look at a small example. We see the body. These, we say, are the hands. These are the two legs. This is the head. This is the belly. Besides, it has very many lesser limbs. If all these limbs are to show their strength and skill, the one single wealth common to all, flowing evenly through all the limbs, is blood alone. If we think of cutting off one hand, a great deal of blood is wasted through that hand. So the other limbs become weak. In just the same way, the wealth that came from divinity is Satya, Dharma, Śānti, Prema and Ahiṃsā. If we are to keep these human values, we must bring in all the values of God.
Hanumān showed this as a fine ideal. "Rāma, in the body You are the Lord. I am the servant. In the principle of the jīva You are the original and I am the reflection. In the principle of the Ātma You alone are I, and I alone am You." Swami says this from time to time. You are not one person, but three. The one you think you are, the one others think you are, the one you really are. So we must not think of ourselves as mere petty men or as a lowly humanity. We go on praying. These Hostel Boys all know it: when we eat, we pray.
