In plain words
Man means one who has faith. It is by that very faith that we must win. But in the man of today, faith has wasted away. He cannot trust even himself. How can one who does not trust himself trust anything? Such a weakling is no man at all. With purity of all three instruments we must practise every kind of purity. What is chief and precious in man is his word. We must not waste this word. When we disregard the word, life itself goes to waste.
Embodiments of Prema! Today human values are essential for the world. It is these that they are trying to develop in the field of education. In these paths, the moral, the physical, that of Dharma, the worldly and the scientific, it has not developed at all. But only in the spiritual can it be developed. Without Bhakti humanness has not developed even a little. So first of all we must develop faith in God. But there is the doubt whether God is or is not. Some argue that He is, some that He is not. My view is this: the one who says He is and the one who says He is not, each is fit to say He is or He is not only if he has seen Him. If you want to say of some object that it is there or is not there, you must first have known well what that object is. Only if you have once seen that this is a rose can you say, ‘Here is a rose, in Swami's hand.’ How can one who has never seen a rose say that this flower is in Swami's hand? In the same way, rather than saying God is or God is not, it is when one knows what God is like and who He is that one becomes fit to say He is or He is not. To say of what is not, ‘He is’, is foolishness. When a person has slipped away somewhere, if we go to the place where that person is and search, we will find him. However much we search in a place where he is not, we will not see him. Then where is God? Where are we to go and search? This matter has nothing to do with that. This matter is the very opposite. That is, God is everywhere. So we need not search for Him. All that we see is the form of the Paramātma. All is the form of the Paramātma. Viśvaṃ viṣṇusvarūpaṃ. We see the world in the form of God. And we say there is no God, no God: where is there greater foolishness than this? Everything is God. There is no thing and no place anywhere else where God is not. That is why we must believe that everything is the form of God. Only when we develop such faith can we develop true humanness.
Merely by naming them, Satya, Dharma, Śānti, Prema, Ahiṃsā, we cannot nourish human values. You can say them with the mouth alone. That is why they said, Satyaṃ vada. They said, Dharmaṃ cara. They said, practise. But when we practise this Dharma with something hidden, karma troubles us greatly.
