Passage 8

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

Right now we must, as it were, give these Vedas a little grafting, form a small group, win for it the right strength of nourishment, and give it the right zeal and encouragement.

One may say a crore of things; they do not do one; saying is easy, doing is hard.

When things are in such a state, what use is it to say however much that this Veda is great? This Veda is wholly free. It is this that develops the close bond and kinship between God and you. It is not what gives you a close kinship with the people. That is why all those who know the Veda must make some tyāga and dedicate their lives to the Veda; only then shall we be the ones who restore our ancient Bhārata once more. They are giving up the karmas that are good according to the Veda. They are sinking into the blind custom of "Don't touch, don't touch." How little they follow of what the Veda said! Even if life itself should go, we must follow the Veda. Only when we have bound ourselves by such a vow shall we be fit to spread this Veda. Progress does not come merely by …. We must set about spreading it fearlessly, without doubt.

Why should Satya fear? Only Asatya fears. It is because there is Asatya in them that they are afraid. Why fear? Will they take your life? Let them take it: that you offered your life for the Vedas, that too will be a great glory. With firm faith of this kind we must try to restore the Veda. We must keep putting into practice what the Veda has taught. What we have put into practice we must pass on to others. Only then will it grow, little by little. I hope that every person will take this path as a duty and try to restore it, and, with My blessings, I bring My discourse to a close.
