In plain words
First, one must ask. Afterwards, one must give it up. After this asking, after the enjoying, detachment arises in us. So ask for what must be asked. Keep even these desires under control. Na śrēyō niyamaṃ vinā. If there is no such discipline, our life falls into great suffering. I am not saying there should be no desires. Ask for what is needed. But as far as possible, cut down these desires and delight in God the more.
If God Himself is near us, everything comes within our reach; if God Himself moves far away, we become people who have put everything far from us.
If I am not Yours alone, O Mother of the world, I shall be scorned in the world, Mother of the world.
If we are scorned by the Mother of the world Herself, what then in the world can we enjoy? What can we delight in? A son far from his mother can enjoy no happiness. And God is no ordinary mother. This divine Mother, this glorious Mother, this ever-fresh Mother, the Mother who gives what is new, the Mother who stands ever new. She is new at every moment. Recognise one small thing. Many people stay on in Prasanthi Nilayam for years together. There are those too who stay ten days, fifteen days. As soon as morning comes they come and have darśan of Swami. Is it not enough to see Him in this way for a day or two? But having seen that same Swami in the morning, they want to see Him again in the evening; having seen Him in the evening, they want to see Him again in the morning; if they want to see Him in this way, year after year, how eternally beautiful, how eternally youthful! There is no one who saw Him once and was satisfied. In the morning all of them sit in silence, on that side and this, and every eye watches that door. It is the same Swami they saw yesterday, is it not? Why then must they see Him again? No, no. We must see Him again. We must see Him again. That way is contained in that Prema itself. It is ever new. So feelings of this kind are a close bond only between God and devotees. To foster these bonds and ties is the chief goal. Bhūmānanda said, 'This itself is our Ānanda. This itself is our sāyujya. This itself is our sālokya. This itself is our sāmīpya. To experience such Ānanda is the goal of our life,' he said. To foster such Prema for God is the chief sādhana. That itself is what all the Vedas teach. So, hoping that you will become filled with Prema, make the principle of Prema manifest and strive to experience the Ānanda of Prema, and blessing you, I bring My discourse to a close.
