Passage 6

In plain words

This too is a great mistake. The heart itself is the Ātma. The Ātma itself is the heart; to think that the Ātma is in the heart is Ajñāna.

But if we are sunk in darkness of this kind and burn with Ajñāna, what is the root cause of it? Our vision is not travelling toward the Ātma. It is travelling merely as far as the mind, and no further. One who depends on the mind alone cannot escape falling into this darkness called Ajñāna. Then what is the way to check this mind? There is no need to check the mind. It is not possible for anyone to check this mind. Then how must we bring this mind under our control? For this there is one means, one only. For as long as the sun is there, we pay no heed to the moon. The moon cannot shine either. All the moon's light rests on the sun alone. Only when the sun is not there do we look for this moon. In the same way, the Ātma itself is the sun. Manas itself is the moon. Only as long as there is no vision of the Ātma do we depend on the moon called Manas; but we cannot recognise even the truth that this moon called the mind, too, depends on the sun called the Ātma, on the sun. So when we turn our vision toward the Ātma, the mind disappears of itself. Even though it is there, it vanishes. It is not seen. While the sun is shining the moon may be seen, but he gives no light at all. In the same way, as long as we try to live all our lives taking refuge in the mind alone and making the mind alone our support, it is not possible at all for us to rid ourselves of sorrows, attachment and hatred. So we must think of the principle of the Ātma that is everywhere as the heart, and try to foster that broad feeling.

Viśvaṃ viṣṇusvarūpaṃ. For us, it is not that God lives somewhere, in one place.

Why search, asking where God is? Is not Īśvara the very form of the heart? Give service, take Prema.

Right there, divinity reveals itself to us. But today people do not give service with all their heart, and they do not take Prema. They are in a state where neither this one has the strength to give service nor that one the strength to give Prema. This Prema too travels only toward self-interest and selfishness; it does not travel as far as what is vast.
