Passage 7

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

Just because we have eyes, we must not spoil our sight in many ways. We must see only the sights that ought to be seen. We must not see at all the things that ought not to be seen. With the hands we must do only good deeds. By such sacred karmas alone we must make this life fruitful and sacred.

Embodiments of Prema! You must not try to enter this spiritual path through excessive reflection or enquiry. The culture of the people of Bhārata is not made of blind beliefs. It is what many great ṛṣis, after many kinds of sādhana and research, experienced, delighted in and shared out among all. From the Vedas, Śāstras, Itihāsas and Purāṇas Bhārata drew these, the sacred milk, and from it received a kind of ball of butter. Bhārata is not a lump of clay or a lump of flesh. It is a ball of nectar. A ball of Ānanda. A ball of butter, the essence of all the Śāstras and Itihāsas. Without trying to enquire into such sacredness, to think in whatever way occurs to us, to believe it and to follow it: this is not man's right duty. Because God is everywhere and in all, He can do any work at all. To enquire and decide, "If He is God, will He do this? Will He do that? Will He be like this? Will He be like that?": no one has that power, no one has the authority. God can do anything at all.

He brings tears, He takes tears away, He makes the ascetic an enjoyer, He makes the enjoyer an ascetic, He sends madness, He drives madness away, He gives birth, He protects, He destroys.

God knows by what kind of saṅkalpa of His, in what task, which person, when, where, how and in what way we should discuss. No one has the authority to decide, "God must do only these things, God must do only those." There is Hiraṇyakaśipu, there is Prahlāda. He protected Prahlāda. He punished Hiraṇyakaśipu. Taking into account his prārabdha, his sañcita and his āgāmi, God Himself plays every part to suit that time, that curse and those circumstances.

The universe is the form of Viṣṇu. For God, who is everywhere, when it is done here in the form of selfishness, it takes shape as something different. God has no selfishness at all.
