In plain words
Whatever work God does, free of selfishness as He is, it is all for others. It is all sacred. It is all Dharma. So no one has the authority to decide that such divinity, whose very form is Satya, is like this or like that. The Vedas too, researching in many ways, researching the knowledge of the Śāstras in many ways, went in the end as far as the path of "Neti neti: not this, not this"; but no one was left with the authority to say what it is.
The actor and the director of the whole world is He Himself; in every form He plays the part of an actor. The one who speaks is He Himself, the one spoken to is He Himself, the one who reviles is He Himself, the one reviled is He Himself. The one who weeps is He Himself, the one who makes others weep is He Himself. How can we decide what such a God is? But divinity has one thing only, the principle of Prema: it has the principle of Prema that attracts. This attraction cannot be in everyone. Only the ocean has a depth that is vast, endless and fathomless. Will a tumbler of water drawn from it have its vastness? It may have the taste of the ocean, but this water cannot be the ocean. In the same way, those who are jīvas may have them according to their own strength and their own saṃskāra, but they cannot have more than that.
Once Lakṣmaṇa, Sītā, all of them, acted as though they were in doubt. In view of all their circumstances and their conduct, even Tyāgarāja came to have some doubt. To attract so many thousands, so many lakhs of people, there must be something in Him; if it were not there, so many thousands could not come, could they? Today so many thousands have gathered here. Did we give anyone an invitation? Did we write letters asking them to come, or put a notice in the paper? No. No. The attraction of that Prema alone is the root cause of it. That is why Tyāgarāja said:
Is it for nothing that they have gathered round You, calling You Śrīkara, the ocean of compassion? O You whose form is pure Consciousness, You indeed are the wish-fulfilling gem…
"If the wish-fulfilling gem called the ocean of compassion were not with You, would there be this thing by which You draw so many? So, if that gem were not with You, could so many gather, O Rāma?" he said. Because such a gem of Prema is here, it has become possible for so many to gather here. People may say whatever occurs to them. But whoever it may be, tell him to show the power that draws so many, thousands upon thousands. Even if you bring them in lorry after lorry and set them down there, they will not be able to stay. They keep running away. Here, even when told, "No, no, there is no room even in the sheds," they say, "We will stay even under the trees," but they will not agree at all to go back.
