In plain words
This itself is true Prema, the Prema that joins heart to heart. No one can come here by force. That very noose of Prema binds all of them here. That itself is the divine power for us. You may think that all of them are displaying this power and that power. In your eyes these are displays, but what is Mine is, to Me, evidence. This is natural to Me. To your eyes it is a display. I go on following My own nature. That itself is the natural way of divine Prema. This is not possible for everyone. Master and search through as many Śāstras, as many Vedas, as many Upaniṣads and Brahma Sūtras as you like, and grasp it: let us see! It will never be possible. Only those who have made that Prema their basis will understand it. Prema costs not a naya paisā. That Prema is in you quite naturally. If you try to experience that natural Prema, it will come to you. Rāmadāsu said:
Here is the sweet called the Name of Rāma; come, O devotees! Into the wheat flour that is the essence of the Vedas they poured the milk that is the word of the Vedas; they took a big pan of Ānanda, and the first sages mixed it well. (Here is the sweet …) Delicious is Rāma's sweet; it cures every disease; it costs not a single coin; take it with joy! (Here is the sweet …)
This costs nothing at all. But only the fares for your coming and going are an expense. Even that expense is itself a sacred expense. So even the expense called this pilgrimage to Puttaparthi is no expense. It is nothing but a gain. But without that expense this gain will not come to you. If we go to a shop wanting to buy a handkerchief, when we give five rupees he gives us a handkerchief. We have no right to take unless we give. In the same way, only when you have made some sacrifice, however small, and come here, does such a feeling come to you. Prema is a thing of giving and taking. You must believe firmly today in this truth: whatever God does, whatever He says, whatever He thinks, is all for the sake of the people and not for His own sake.
Swami has no selfishness in any corner at all. Believe it or not, to Me all are one and the same. But it varies a little, according to each one's lot. In the sea there is as much water as anyone needs. Whatever size of vessel someone takes, water comes to just that vessel's measure. In the same way, according to their karma and according to their lot, this good fortune comes to them. So today we must develop good saṅkalpas. From saṅkalpa alone comes karma. From karma alone, sādhana. From sādhana alone, character. From character alone, attainment.
