In plain words

We do perform good deeds, we do take part in good works, but no change at all comes within. We are becoming utterly slaves to worldly influences. … this influence … man forgets. So we must develop our own true nature. Our own nature is itself the feeling of the Ātma; we must think of the Ātma as present in all, just as it is. Today we think of it as the new year. We call it Ugādi. It belongs to the lunar reckoning. Man depends on the nine planets. He believes that only when the nine planets favour him will his humanness turn into divinity. In astrology they look on these planets as the chief thing. Fortunately this year the king, the minister, the commander of the army, Venus and Mercury, the important ones, are the ruling planets. Of the nine planets, five have come into very important places. They have been showing this to be most beneficial, heartening and auspicious for the country. The … of the future rests on human beings, not on the planets. What man has today is not nine planets but just two. Those two are none other than attachment and hatred. If we subdue this attachment and hatred, all the planets come into our hands. So curb attachment and hatred first of all. Foster forbearance within your humanness.

Strengthen true calm. Foster the principle of Prema. There is no life-breath higher than Prema. Satya, Dharma, Śānti and Ahiṃsā rest on Prema alone. Love of God, fear of sin and right conduct in society rest on Prema alone. So only when we become full of Prema, when Prema becomes the world, can we know Śānti and happiness in the world. So there is no need to wait a whole year for the new year. The whole year rests on twelve months. Within these twelve months each month rests on thirty days. The day rests on twenty-four hours. The hour rests on sixty minutes. The minute rests on sixty seconds. So every single second is itself new. Without the second there is no minute at all. Without the minute there are no hours. Without hours there is no month. Without the month there is no year. So we must rest our life on the moments themselves. Moment by moment we must be full of Prema, speak with Prema to all our fellow men, greet them with Prema, listen to things of Prema, and spend our life in joy. We must give no room at all to hatred and envy.
