In plain words
Only then does human life, which began with annamaya, end with ānandamaya. Today it is not right for man to think life is happy just because he has children in the house, sleep enough to fill his eyes and clothes enough to cover his body. To think we will gain Śānti through power, through wealth, or through anything else at all is great folly. Śānti starts from our conduct. It starts from our very thoughts. When our thoughts are pure, we enter into pure actions. When our actions are pure, our life is pure and peaceful. Our own thoughts and conduct are the root cause of today's unrest. So first of all we must strive to develop good thoughts. Dedicate your body to carrying out your duty.
Yajña means the spirit of sacrifice
In ancient times humanity in Bhārata held to the authority of the Vedas, lived under their law, and by that very law went on living its life. But today people act against the ways of ancient times and the authority of the Vedas. What is the reason for this? Today food is the most urgent need. There is a shortage of this much-needed food. What is the reason for the shortage of food today? Man's own resolves are the root cause. We have been giving up the yajñas, yāgas and other rites, which are karma enjoined, made of karma, the very life of karma. Yajña does not mean merely sitting before a fire-pit, saying mantras and making offerings into the fire.
