In plain words
When do we use That? What is far from us we call That. If it is near, we call it This. But near to what, and far from what? What is below the senses we call This. What is beyond the senses we call That. What is beyond the senses has been called the spiritual. What is below the senses is the body. What is beyond the senses is the heart. We are keeping the eternal heart safe in the passing body. We have kept valuable jewels in the iron safe called the body. We put jewels in an iron safe, and not in a golden box. But the iron safe has no value, while the things kept in it have value. If you put valuable jewels in a valuable golden box, there is no safety.
This body is a worthless iron safe, like jewels kept inside the box.
In our body are the valuable things called good qualities. If we are to understand that principle of the mind:
Bend the body Mend the senses End the mind.
This is the true process.
We must recognise the nature of the mind well. When does this become known? You must not be full of ego in the body. Work. Bend the body. Do your duty sincerely. Second: Mend the senses. Inquire how our senses are. We must correct these senses. Then, end the mind: the nature of the mind must come to an end. How does it come to an end? Turning it is its secret. A small example of this. We have put a lock on a door. If we want to open the lock, what must we do? We must put the key in the lock. Turn it to the right and it opens. Turn it to the left side and it locks. So bondage and release have one and the same root. What is called your heart is the lock. The key is the mind. Turn it to God's side: detachment. Turn it to the world's side: attachment. We use the one key to open and to close. This very key is the mind. If you turn this mind towards nature, everything becomes bondage for you. If you turn your mind towards divinity, everything becomes Ānanda for you. To turn the mind towards God is itself the change of mind. That itself is work, worship, wisdom. Do every act for the pleasure of God. That will give you Ānanda. Science gives physical comforts.
