In plain words
Every moment it oozes only foul matter; civet and musk will never come from it.
Yet we must not neglect this body. It is the instrument given for the practice of Dharma, so we must give this instrument the care it deserves. But it is essential to recognise the truth that it is such. So to enquire into the secret of the body and the holiness of the body: this itself is the enquiry into the field. The knower of the field is himself the embodiment of the Ātma. The body is made of clay. The knower of the field is Consciousness. That is why Paramātma, who is Consciousness, dwells in this body of clay.
This body is a worthless iron box; as jewels are put into the box, the Ātma, God, dwells in the body, mind you.
Where do we keep even our precious jewels set with diamonds, cat's-eyes, emeralds, rubies and topazes? Do we keep them in a box of gold? No, we keep them in an iron box; the box has no value. But the jewels in it have value. In just the same way, the body is like an iron box. Dust keeps settling all over it. Rust gathers on it. It keeps bursting. We keep giving it rest. All of them, all these diseases, are for this alone. But inside it are the precious jewels that were put there. They themselves are Sat, Cit and Ānanda.
To recognise that Sat, Cit and Ānanda, we must love this one. That Prema must be broad, not merely selfish, not only for one's own gain. Before loving God, one must love oneself. After loving oneself, one must love society. After that, one must love this very world. When there is no selfless Prema, we cannot love the world. He who cannot love the world cannot love Paramātma. First love the world. Then you may love the Lord of the world. So man must try to love himself, his society and those around him. Where there is Prema, there is no hatred. Where there is no hatred, there is only Prema. There are just two: Prema and hatred. Hatred swells Ahaṅkāra. It swells show. Prema increases forbearance. It shows sympathy. So in God's sight, the creation of man is a great wonder. To make it spread through the universe, to share this Prema rightly with all others, they have nurtured it in the manner of a family.
