In plain words

Switch it off, and the light goes. The light is not coming. Nor is it going. Switching on, switching off: that was you alone. This current protects us, punishes us, nourishes us. God is the cause of creation, preservation and dissolution. In the same way the current too follows creation, preservation and dissolution. For the lights to shine, the fans to turn and the mike to work, the cause is the current the generator produces. The current in all of these is one. Switch on the air conditioner, and cool air comes and lulls you till you forget yourself. Sleep comes. In winter, put on a heater, and warm air comes and makes you comfortable. In the air conditioner and the heater there is one current; so this very current shields you from the sun and the wind. So it does not only create. The current protects. If you clasp it, "O current! How much good you have done me!", it gives you a shock. You must show that gratitude in the form of action. But not by clasping it. For God's saving you, for His protecting you, show your gratitude in your conduct. You are not showing your gratitude in the right way. Showing it only in words is of no use. You must show it in your behaviour.

God is everywhere. He is in you too. So your own good resolve protects, as the very form of God. He is the embodiment of Prajñā. That is why it was said, "Prajñānaṃ Brahma." He is in every human being. A student will ask, "Where is God?" The answer comes to you in the very prayer you say every day before meals. You recite the Brahmārpaṇam. "Ahaṃ vaiśvānaro bhūtvā prāṇināṃ deham āśritaḥ: I Myself dwell in your life-breath," said God. So the very God who is within you protects you. If you act against your heart, that same God punishes you. So all the things seen outside are only reflections of the things within. Bad or good, they are only reflections of your own feelings. Do not delude yourself that merely by going to some temple and doing pūjā you will win God's grace there. If you worship God and torment living beings, will you find happiness? Praying to God made a plus. Tormenting living beings made a minus. Plus, minus, plus, minus, and so on: zero. So we must cultivate the vision of Divinity in all living beings.

Today the Bhagavad Gītā is being widely spread all over the world. Gītā preachers have multiplied in every street and every quarter. This is a very holy work, but do they honour the Bhagavad Gītā? Do they honour what is in that Gītā? The moment they see the Bhagavad Gītā they touch it to their eyes and offer it worship. Then do they honour the paper, or the matter inside? Be it the Bhagavad Gītā, the Koran or the Bible, let it be any book at all: it is not a matter of honouring books. We must honour what is in the books and put it into practice.
