In plain words
That is why: Satya, Satya, Satya. Because of this, in the Veda too: satyaṃ vada, dharmaṃ cara. First Satya, then Dharma. Satya is the foundation. On it alone the mansion called Dharma has been built.
Students! Enter the path of Satya. Make your speech sacred with Satya. Live a life of Satya. Long for true Ānanda. That alone is eternal Ānanda. That alone is supreme Ānanda. That alone is the Ānanda of yoga. That alone is the Ānanda of non-duality; the Ānanda of non-duality means: the Ānanda that is in everyone is in me, and the Ānanda that is in me is in everyone. So if we hold fast to this Satya, everything becomes ours. In this Satya itself is Ānanda. So we must follow the path of Satya, keep our delusions under some control, curb our desires, and become fit for grace, and not fit for wrath. That is why, in Vedānta:
It is not right, not right, this thirst for wealth, O man; with a good mind give up your desires.
We must give them up with a good mind. We must not give them up by some force or other, by some compulsion or other, or by … obstinacy
With a good mind give up your desires; wealth is only the fruit of karma, you know.
Where did this seed come from? It came to you as the fruit of the karma you did. This wealth is only what you have earned. It did not grow from some tree. It did not spring from the sky. It did not rise from the earth. This wealth is only the fruit of your karma. In whatever you have, find contentment; with whatever there is, we must be content. This contentment itself gives man true Ānanda. So: contentment, contentment. He alone is great in this world. He who has much desires is the poorest man. He who has much satisfaction is the richest man. He alone is truly rich. He alone is truly great. He alone is truly of the nature of the Ātma. We must be content. We must be content.
For the sake of such contentment we must go on making certain kinds of inquiry. The studies you pursue, the work you do and the jobs you seek have no connection at all. You imagine, you think, that job and studies, all of these, are somehow for a living. No, no. That is a great mistake. Farming is for food. Education is for knowledge. You may hold lakhs and lakhs of money in bundles in both hands. But this money cannot satisfy hunger.
