In plain words
that a word once spoken must not be broken. In today's conditions, if we look for faith, it is going without any balance. Doubts, doubts over everything. Doubts upon doubts. One born in this anthill of doubts becomes nothing more than an ant. This takes the shape of smallness. It shows itself as a narrow outlook. We must develop a broad heart. So, in honouring the people, Emperor Bali was the very embodiment of great Dharma. Satya and Dharma: these two are Dharmas twined each around the other.
Embodiments of Prema! Today we regard Onam as a sacred day and enjoy it as a festival. But if we put Emperor Bali's qualities and his ideals into practice and worship God, a still higher state will be ours. Without serving humanness, which is the very form of God, how can this divinity be won? So you must keep God's command and God's law to the letter. This is what they called "Uttiṣṭhata, jāgrata." You are asleep in the Ajñāna that is darkness. Arise, obey My command. Wherever there is sacrifice, there God grants His grace to that one. Today people do not take up sacrifice even in name. Sacrifice has dwindled away today. Selfishness has grown very great. As long as this selfishness remains, divinity will not appear to us. God's is a selfless Prema. All this is Prakṛti. This whole of Prakṛti is only the reflection of the Paramātma. The ruler of this Prakṛti is God alone. This earth has a mighty power. Whoever it may be, be he a millionaire or a man too poor to eat, if his foot slips he cannot escape being hurt. This is the nature of Prakṛti. These bodies too are only forms of Prakṛti. So when one slips and falls, the body gets hurt. We must not grieve over this merely on that account. This is the nature of Prakṛti. Within it lies the nature of God. God can bear it with restraint. The devotee cannot.
You know. Many people, with many feelings and many opinions in their minds, are pained that Swami has not come down these four days. If you truly enquire, you will understand what Swami's power of restraint is like. In the bathroom, the soap fell under My foot. My habit is this: at night, after I give everyone namaskāra and send them off, I shut My door Myself and slide the bolt. Then at daybreak, after finishing all My morning duties and bathing, I come and open the doors Myself. In such a setting, somehow I slipped and fell. This is the law of Prakṛti. If one falls, its nature is its nature. If we say fire is hot, that is no wonder. Heat is natural to fire. If we say ice is cold, coldness is its nature. Whether I fall, or you fall, whoever falls, this blow cannot be escaped.
