In plain words
As for how this law works: There is an IG of Police. They lay down many rules on the traffic board. These very police laid down this law. At a circle they will have written "Keep left." Whoever gave this law, that officer too must go only on the left. He must not go on the right. In the same way, in the law that God has given to Prakṛti, He too must follow it. While He keeps to it, some troubles of this kind arise. You know what Swami's restraint means. What gives the power to hold up the whole body and stand is this joint. They call it the hip. The moment I fell in the bathroom, no one could come in; I had bolted it Myself. Holding Myself in, I got up. Getting up, I opened the bolt. These are things for you to rejoice in, and you must not be pained by Swami's restraint. The moment the foot slipped and I fell down, My head fell. Standing straight as I was, I fell just as I stood. In that state, Rādhākṛṣṇa (the student who stays with Me) saw it, and the doctors came. I know. You need not look at anything. I must go through it. I must bear it with restraint. This is an ideal: My life is My message. The doctors said an X-ray must be taken. Dr Chari and Dr Kṛṣṇamūrti both pleaded with Me: "Swami, we must have some small camera brought and look at it, here if nowhere else; otherwise we will not let it go." Seeing their distress I said, "All right, do as you wish." At once, as soon as a lightning call to Bangalore was booked, it came through within a single minute. At once they brought an X-ray plant. When they took it, this had broken. Near that broken bone no one can touch it or move it. Only the one who has gone through it knows. Only the doctors know. For this, our doctors said I must be in bed rest for four weeks. I do not know what rest means. I have no need of rest. I said I would do My own work. But they, the devotees and all the others, were there. Gopāla Rao came. Narasiṃhan came. Seeing it, all of them: "Swami! You must take rest without fail," they said.
"When so many thousands of devotees have reached Prasanthi Nilayam from Kerala with Bhakti and surrender, for Me to sit inside is not My Dharma. To make everyone happy, I will certainly see them," I said. Yet if you think about it, no mere human being can bear this pain. Many people wrote Me letters. "Swami! You must quickly cure this ailment that has come upon You," they said. I have no illness of any kind. Nor will any come. This happened only through some carelessness of this kind; I never have illnesses at all. When they say "Swami is ill, Swami is ill", what is this falling ill? I have no illness at all. Even now I am still doing My work Myself. Sitting on the sofa and reading all the three or four thousand letters that came at daybreak: that is My rest. Where I sit, where I sleep, where I eat: it is all on one sofa now.
