Passage 11

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

I have not held any programmes. But it is only because many devotees asked it that I am keeping from coming out.

At times I take on another's pain. I take on these troubles for My own Ānanda, but there is no force in it. Yet everyone must recognise that control of the mind is essential in all things. They said, "Manam eva manuṣyāṇāṃ kāraṇaṃ bandhamokṣayoḥ." We must practise Emperor Bali's ideals and live them, not just make pāyasam and sweet rice. What he practised was Satya. What he did was Satya. What he did was sacrifice. We must bring this sacrifice and Satya together in our lives and put them into practice. Before leaving the people he said, "Every year, in the month of Śrāvaṇa, when the star Śravaṇa and the tithi too come together, I will come." In memory of this, the observance that all the people of Kerala keep, worshipping him and making him pleased, is what is called Onam.

Embodiments of Prema! Whatever troubles come, pay them no heed and try to turn your mind. That itself is "My life is My message." To show this, I display so many kinds of restraint. Recognise that humanness is the combined form of these three: body, Manas and Ātma. Where there is no body, neither Manas nor the Ātma comes within sight. Where there is no Manas, we can make no sense at all of body or Ātma. There can be no being without the Ātma. That itself is the root and support of everything. So we must bring these three well together and enter a true life. We must not waste time. Many children in the hostel and in the primary school have been offering prayers for Swami. Which gods must be prayed to so that Swami gets well? In this state of doubt the devotees are praying to all the gods.

Students! People! This is not something prayers alone will set right. The day you recognise Swami's principle and the truth about Swami, from that day such troubles will not touch you. The MBA boys in our hostel, saying "Swami is the form of all the gods, is He not?", have been doing the Gāyatrī mantra. At such a time we must watch how their minds and their intellects waver, how they go astray. Such feelings coming to you now and then, and your finding a fitting remedy for them: in this way you must lead a peaceful life. Swami's compassion and Prema rest on you fully and abundantly. Otherwise, they tried to take Me to Bangalore at once. I told them, "When some thousands of Kerala devotees, devotees of the highest kind, are coming, it is not possible for Me to slip away; I will not go": that is what I said.
