Passage 12

In plain words

The Ānanda of the devotees is My Ānanda. I have no Ānanda of My own. I do not want any. Why should I pay heed to this body? There is one more thing you must recognise. This body does not belong to Me. It belongs to you. So I must not enter into it at all. Your bodies are Mine. Only when one enters the body in hardship, in pain, in sorrow, when there is the feeling "this body is mine, mine", do many kinds of pain arise. The one who is installed in the devotee's heart is God. So, you who are devotees, give no room to the doubt that such things will trouble Swami, not today, not tomorrow, not ever. Nothing ever troubles Me. Yet in what is of nature, by the way of the body, they come and they go. They are passing clouds. So if you understand divinity well, only feelings like "Alas, these pains! He is suffering in this way! Swami must take this medicine" should arise. Yet because they have Bhakti and boundless Prema for Swami, they keep saying with great tenderness and Prema, "Take rest, Swami, take rest." I do not want rest. I am always arrest. Arrest means being without rest. That is My message; that I practise. Even now I am not taking rest. You may not know this. Though they said I must not move, I rise as early as five, and brushing My teeth, finishing the morning duties, bathing, all of it is still going on. All of you, forget your own troubles in Ānanda and pass the time as cheerfully as you can. Swami has no pains at all. In the body such things come and go. With the head falling to the floor, the head should have cracked. I am telling you the plain fact. On that mosaic floor it fell with a thud. There was a loud sound. Dr Kṛṣṇamūrti said, "Swami, a photograph must be taken; the head is swollen and is not in a sound state", and he begged. No one knew that My head had swollen. I said I did not need it. My only pain is that I could not give the devotees any joy at all. So when Swami has the power to bear everything with restraint, how can you think this is pain? You think in the way of the body, "Swami is suffering!", but your journey does not reach as far as the Ātma. You must stay with the courage that says, "Nothing happens to Swami; nothing can befall Him."

Every one of these is an ideal given to the devotees. When hardship comes you need not weep. You must keep in view where happiness and sorrow were born. Neither happiness nor sorrow is what gives us Ānanda. But men welcome happiness and joy. And they send off sorrow and pain.
