Passage 13

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

But you must know that the principle in Swami is the principle of evenness. The place where these two are kept is the heart itself. If we control the heart, these pains will not trouble us at all.

So do nāmasaṅkīrtana without ceasing. Doing japa and dhyāna because pain has come to Swami brings no benefit. That is artificial. Swami will never have pains. You must recognise the truth that I am acting a part. Today is also the Varalakṣmī vrata, a Śrāvaṇa Friday. Very sacred things have come together.

Things of this kind keep coming to the body and keep going. You must not mind them. I do not mind them at all. One more small example. Standing here all this while is itself a great miracle. The legs are pulling. There is pain enough. But because I am talking with you, I feel no pain at all. So you too must strive to turn the mind elsewhere in hardships, in pains and in sorrows. I am speaking with you today to teach you this.

Do the nāmasaṅkīrtana of God without ceasing, always, at all times. Live together in harmony, all of you. The Name is sweeter by far than amṛta. Make that sweet Name dance on your tongue. Swami has no pains of any kind. You need not grieve at all. The people of Kerala must not be pained at all. They were pained that they did not get Swami's darśan for three days. "There is some fault in us. This happened only for our good": cultivate such noble feelings. Do service to the world.
