Passage 7

In plain words

We go on keeping a few festivals or other, and we enjoy Sunday as a holiday. We must enjoy it as a holy day. We cannot understand the principle of God. His līlās lie past all reach of speech and mind. It is good to hold on to what has come to us and try to enjoy it. Needlessly getting into idle arguments, we must not lose even the Viveka we have. The chief thing of all is Prema alone. By this Prema alone the world can be made one. It is the lack of Prema alone that brings hatred. This hatred destroys humanness. To grow hatred is very hard. To grow Prema is very easy. We leave aside what is easiest and try to achieve what is hardest. To speak Satya is very easy. To tell a lie you must lay many plans. You must take a great deal of trouble. If by some lapse of mind you tell a lie, you must tell ten more lies to cover it up. Satya is a very comfortable thing. Satyaṃ brūyāt priyaṃ brūyāt; such a form of Satya is God.

Satya is the basis of the whole world. This Satya lies beyond the range of speech and mind. It transcends the influences of place, time and circumstance. It is this that Vedānta has called Ṛtam. This they have called transcendental truth. Satya is what does not change in the three times. We must take refuge in that Satya. If you ask where God is, God is everywhere. Vedānta has said Paśyatīti paśuḥ; what does it mean? Everything you see is God. Everything you enjoy is God Himself. That you fall prey to … is through God alone. There is nothing else in the world that is not done by God. All the sights we see are God's. Only when we develop such a powerful feeling will the principle of the Ātma become clear to us. First of all we must strengthen faith in God.

In this world names may differ. One may say Rāma, another may say Kṛṣṇa. Names may differ, but divinity is one. Every human being is an embodiment of God. Īśāvāsyam idaṃ sarvaṃ, vāsudeva sarvam idaṃ; only then will the bonds between man and man grow. We must have faith in God. We must walk in Dharma. We must hold to Satya. Only then will our life be fulfilled. So, first of all, do not take what is called the principle of the name as your support. We must strengthen the faith that this holds divinity. Here is a small example of it.

I dwell in the light; I myself am the light. In me is the light. The light is I myself; this feeling must come to us. Within me there is light. I am in the light, so the light and I are one.
