In plain words
So, whether to attain God or to drive away attachment and hatred, the principle of Prema alone is the chief power.
Embodiments of Prema! Human life is momentary. The body is like a bubble on water. The money we have earned and the houses we have acquired: how long can we enjoy them? For these we must not waste our body, our karma and our time. Food to eat, cloth to wear, a home to live in are most necessary for everyone. But this desire is going beyond all limits. Desires have no limit at all. The one who is sunk in these desires has not time enough even to bow to God. If he is asked to take part in a gathering, he says, 'I have no time at all.' Tomorrow, when Yama comes and says 'Come', 'Sir! O Yamadharmarāja, I cannot come': can you say that?
When Yama's servants, crying 'Come on, come on!', drag at the noose, when your kinsmen say, 'Quick, quick, put him outside, there is no use now,' when wife and children wail aloud, can you then bring Hari's Name to your lips?
At that moment, if you ask for a little respite and say, 'Sir, O Yamadharmarāja, wait a little while, I will say a prayer,' who will agree? That is why the chief duty in our life, the chief goal of man, is Bhakti for God itself. This very Bhakti gives us śakti. This very śakti brings us bhukti. This very Bhakti gives us rakti. Enjoying this Bhakti, we enter virakti. This very virakti brings Mukti. So Bhakti itself brings us strength of so many kinds.
So, making Bhakti our support, we must tie on the wristlet of a vow to carry out our duty. Today we are forgetting these duties and this Dharma of man. We are giving in to these physical comforts that only deceive us, plunge us into many illusions and lead us onto a path that smears soot on our humanness. What is permanent for us? Nothing is permanent. What we saw in the waking state is not seen by us in the dream itself. What we saw in the dream we look on in the waking state as merely laughable. As far as the waking state goes, the waking state is real; as far as the dream goes, the dream is real. In the waking state there is no dream. In the dream there is no waking state. Embodiments of Prema! You are there in the waking state and in the dream. So both waking and dream are nothing but dreams.
