In plain words
But how long are they hidden? Only for a while. These clouds are passing clouds. They are not fixed clouds. If we hold on with patience for a while, those fears, excitements and elations all change little by little. The moment they change, we can see our own svarūpa. Then our understanding goes on shining. So we must nourish calm. We must win calm. Children today, excitement over a mere straw: we must give it no room at all. In the world today, student revolt is bound up with excitements like these. That is the effect of hot blood itself. It is natural to that age. But we must not take it as natural. In that very age we must use all our strength and ability. Control of the senses must be practised in that very age. If we want to gain mastery of the senses after reaching some age, how will it be possible?
Some others think: why think of God at this age? Will it not do to work well at a job, earn money, and at the end sit on a bed and say Rām, Rām? Still others say they will enter a spiritual organisation after they retire. There is no end at all to this retiring. They re-tire again and go on, and enter some other job. Till they die, these people do not let go of the craving for money. When, then, will they enter the spiritual life?
When the servants of Death pull the noose, crying ‘Come, come!’, when kinsmen cry ‘Quick, put him outside; there is no use now’, when wife and children weep and wail, can you then speak the Name of Hari with your lips?
Will it be possible then to say Hari, Hari? It is impossible. So we must nourish this at this very age. Start early Drive slowly Reach safely. At this very age we must make spiritual thought grow. If you do not fill these tanks with water in the rainy season itself, how will you have it to enjoy in the hot season? So at this very age we must fill the tank that is the heart with the principle of God. In old age we can make use of it.
