In plain words
If they do not put on just this kind of show, patients will not come to the doctors and clients will not come to the lawyers. These are the chief problems that arise within daily life. To escape these problems and to get these things, they fall into this corruption. All in all, the cause of this corruption is this: the advance of Science is the root cause. Science is not bad. The fault lies in the way it is used. So we badly need an education about the way to use it. Education, one can say, means nothing but the full knowledge of the Ātma. Today's students, who ought to acquire such an education, are simply falling into many difficulties within this modern education. Learn just a mustard seed of modern education, and an Ahaṅkāra the size of a pumpkin springs up. It is in just such educated people that nothing but distaste for Bhāratīya culture is born. This cannot be right education. We must try to recognise true education.
We must do away with the tie that binds education to employment alone. We must believe that education is what gives us the help we need to live with honour and justice in society. Once honour in society is lost, what is there for learning to save for us? Through education, we must make the effort needed to nourish man's morality and honesty. We must develop a life of gratitude. But today such gratitude is nowhere to be seen. The educated man hangs back from honouring even the parents who bore him. He forgets the truth: his blood, his head, his parents gift. He does not try to honour even his parents in the right way. This can only be called avidyā; it cannot be called vidyā. However far Jñāna grows, along with Jñāna Ajñāna too keeps pace with it like a shadow, to the same degree.
Students! If you would study, study for the sake of the country alone; do not study for your own sake, for your selfish ends. If you want the culture of our Bhārata to endure for ever, understand our sacred culture. As long as Bhāratīya culture lives, so long will Bhārata be safe and well. The day we lose this sacred culture, that day we have no Bhārata at all. You must hold such divine culture to be the very blood in your body. It came to be called Indian culture merely because Indians fostered it; but it is a culture of a kind that belongs to the whole world. Rooted in the ancient culture, this culture is the fit foundation on which humanness itself may nourish divinity.
