Passage 11

In plain words

My thoughts, My words, My action are one. So it does not matter even if this whole assembly hears it. I am telling only Satya; listen,” He said. “Do you know how many parts there are to the body? You are blind; you do not know. First of all, the head. That head rests on the shoulders. These shoulders rest on the belly. This belly rests on the legs. Nakula and Sahadeva are like the legs. Bhīma is the stomach. Arjuna is the shoulders. My head is Dharmarāja. In such a body, Kṛṣṇa is there as the heart. So, whatever close bond the heart has with this body, that is the close bond I have with the Pāṇḍavas.” He said. Without the heart there is no body. Without the body there is no way to recognise the heart. Kṛṣṇa's fame comes only from the Pāṇḍavas. The Pāṇḍavas' victory comes only from Kṛṣṇa. These two rest on each other. A bond in which neither can be without the other. At these words the whole assembly was moved. “Kṛṣṇa, who has so much love for the Pāṇḍavas: no one can conquer Him,” they said. All the elders in the assembly: “Dhṛtarāṣṭra, do not cross the word of Kṛṣṇa; perverse thoughts come only when your time of ruin has come. Shut your sons' mouths. The moment they come, give them back their Indraprastha.” Bhīṣma too spoke firmly. Only Duryodhana is listening to the words of the base Karṇa. Then Kṛṣṇa spoke out well. “Karṇa has already lost five lives,” He said. “The sixth life is now in Arjuna's hand.” Karṇa too is there in that assembly. “What is this losing of five lives?” he asked. “The first: his mother left him in the river. One who never had a mother's love: with the mother a generation is gone, they say. Karṇa is one who never had a mother's love. So one life was gone. The second. Then his father, the Sun. He gave away completely the armour his father had given him with so much love. His love was gone. Through Indra the earrings were gone; that is the third life. Then I taught him a great deal: ‘Karṇa, this is not good.’ He did not listen to My teaching. With that the fourth life was gone. Next he came under the curse of Paraśurāma, who was his guru. What there is in the world is mother, father, guru, God. So the mother's love was gone. The father's love was gone. The guru's love was gone. God's love was gone. Indra's love was gone. This Arjuna is the son of that very Indra. With Arjuna the sixth life will go. So Karṇa is not now in full life.”

Hearing these words, Karṇa grew angry. But all these are Satya. Taking this occasion, he tried to bind Kṛṣṇa and kill Him.
