In plain words
No one has any tie with anyone. The one who never lets go of the tie with you is God alone. Your mother may go far away. Your father may go far away. Even your sons may go far away. Even your wife may go far away. Your husband may go far away; God does not go far away. So if you push away the divinity that is eternal Satya and take all the rest for kin, that is never true kinship. So follow your own Satya.
In the culture of Bhārata, “Speak Satya” and “Practise Dharma” are the two chief eyes. No one has the right to speak against them, whatever the religion, whatever the caste, whatever the tribe. Do not travel by a narrow path. Grow what is called the human family. Grow these human values. Not otherwise: to put on a show one way while you are in our hostel and our college, and to go another way the moment you go out: this kind of thing harms only you; it does no harm at all to Me. My grief is just this: that after staying here so long and having had so much of Swami's time, Swami's Prema and Swami's kindness, you should be trying to earn nothing but a bad name. Do not earn a bad name. Do not behave badly. Do not join bad company. If you keep to this kind of path, you will be ones who have won great renown. That is real education. Studying text books is nothing great. Even with no money it is fine; you may live even by going from house to house begging alms, but there is honour in that. However great an officer you may be, people may come and say namaskāra for the sake of your office. Going outside, they keep saying, “He is like this, he is like that.” The namaskāra they give you, they give for money, not for humanness. Without human values, what use is it, however many studies one studies? One who lacks these human values is not a man. He may be a great millionaire. He may be prime minister, he may be a big president. All at once it falls, as a foot ball flies up and falls down. We must earn honour in society. We must earn a good name in society. If we think we are great because we have squeezed and squeezed and made money, that is no greatness at all but a low state. There is no sense at all in it. Earn a good name. Wherever you go, whether you leave your studies or go on studying, you must not behave as you please the moment you go out. You must not take up bad habits. The moment they go, drinking, cigarettes, beedis, in so many ways: such are the students outside. They are students. No. No, they are stupids. Such stupids cannot stay here. Whoever it is, whether a teacher, or a warden, or anyone else at all, if he does not conduct himself in class with proper discipline, we must send him out at once, along with his belongings.
