At prayer time, all must come and gather on time. At mealtime, all must gather together at once. Group bhajan, group worship: precisely for this the Buddha spoke of right vision, right speech, right hearing, right action; that alone is the natural path, He said. Not otherwise: no one is to go one at a time, each at a different time. All must go to school at the same time. All must enter the dining hall at the same time. It is not the house of learning alone. There are four houses. One is the house of learning, the second the house of healing, the third the house of food; and do you know what the fourth is? The house of God. The house of God is not outside. It is in oneself. Never leaving that house of God, within this house we must follow discipline and conduct ourselves at the right time and in the right way. What use is there without discipline?
There is no respect for the father. Father and son behave like friends. The father has no shame, the son has no shame. Today they think there is great freedom in modern education. It is not freedom; it is deaf and dumb. It is foolishness. When a son sees his father he must be respectful and humble in every way. It would be no wrong even to shoot a son who lacks that. There must be no such sons. Fathers must not bring up their sons to be like that. Only then will the real Bhārata stand as the real Bhārata. It will stand true to its ancient tradition. Without those two, integrity and honesty, what use is there? Shame! Shame! That is of no use at all. All of our Institute's children must uphold its honour. The moment you go home, you must show humility and obedience to your parents. Not only show it: you must live that way. If you give your parents due respect today, your children will give you respect tomorrow. Children who cannot give respect even to the parents who bore them: why were they born? So they are not children. Learn how you must bring up children, and then have children. Otherwise, what for? Even a pig has ten piglets born to it. All at once. What use is that? Even they are better: they go along following their mother. The man of today does not follow his mother, does not follow his father. They are becoming lower than pigs. Do not bring on yourselves any such bad name at all. All the children who study at the Sathya Sai Institute must live with right integrity and honesty. Our behaviour must be right. Our manners must be right. Discipline must be right. Without these three, it is not man. The proper study of mankind is man. However much we have, that much is enough for us. We must live with honour. Our honour does not come with money. It comes with character. We must nourish character. Not the nourishing of wealth.
