Passage 9

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

Poor things, they are only ignorant. They are innocents who know nothing. If these ones become teachers, how many more children they will spoil! So such people cannot stay here, either as teachers or as scholars. It is enough for Me if I get one or two. One teaspoon of cow milk is useful why barrels of donkey milk? So we have no greed for many children. Let there be few, and let them grow much in good qualities. This is My aim.

Everyone stays as though they knew nothing. In Telugu they tell a proverb for this. “Stinging like a scorpion, lying low like a lizard”: like a scorpion they inject poison. But like a lizard they lie low. They make a show of being great devotees. One act before Me, another act behind Me: there are many such dummy dance people. I will not accept this any longer. From now on we will make everything strict and take away all this scholarship, even if they are halfway through. We do not need these P.hds. One man of good qualities is enough. For the uplift of the country and the uplift of Dharma, with the idea that the country would be much improved when all today's students became the best of students, we founded this institution; we did not found it as a business. Many devotees are suffering for want of lodgings. We will give these as the lodgings the devotees need. We do not need these very colleges. We will close them at one stroke. So see that you do not fall into such disgrace. Try, each one of you, to recognise this well. You who are elders must remain elders. But you must not behave like bullocks. The great must remain great, and must not behave like cattle. If everyone is like that, what good will come to the world? It is natural for such bad qualities to be in students outside. But in Sai institutions at least, there must be no such people.

For so many days now I have been teaching in so many ways. But what are you doing? What are you following? What are you practising? What are you putting into practice and experiencing? Nothing! Listen to their words, and they leap over forts. There is no use in being speakers only. Walkers are needed. You must live in keeping with this. Rather than say a hundred things, live out one and show it. Only when you shape yourselves in this way into an example will good fame come to this institution. We have not expected a single naya paisa from you. We hope for the uplift of the country from you; Swami has not the least selfishness. Three quarters of the time I have I am spending on you alone.
