In plain words
Even the blind man who has stilled the senses and the mind will attain Mukti; one who does not restrain the senses, though he be the moon, will fall. Open your eyes and see, brother, this Sāī, the God, who, if you think on it, is present everywhere, brother. His name says He was in Shirdi before and is in Parthi now, but He moves within the very eyes of the devotees who hold Him in their thought, brother. Open your eyes and see, brother!
Students!
In the tradition of Bhārata the four puruṣārthas called Dharma, Artha, Kāma and Mokṣa are of the utmost importance to man. But not all people may have the strength and ability to follow them and to enjoy them. There are four ways that are most important for man. Only when we try to understand these properly will Dharma, Artha, Kāma and Mokṣa also become easy to practise. Students today need these very much. Only when they understand these will they be able to understand everything. Because they cannot understand these, many kinds of evil enter in, and people forget the truth of what man is. The first is maitrī. The second is karuṇā. The third is muditā. The fourth is upekṣā. These alone are the four dharmas most essential and important for every human being. But because there is no one to tell them the right meaning of these, and because they lack the strength and ability to reflect, they take maitrī to mean only a kind of friendship, a kind of comradeship.
What does friendship mean? With whom should we make friends, and how should we make them: we must enquire into this Satya fully. You should not make friends with everyone. You should make the friendship that recognises an equality right for you. Make friends only with those who match your own age, your own wealth, your own health, your own education and your own situation. You should not make friends with those above you or with those below you. This is the right meaning of friendship. When you make friends with someone above you, he may try to bring you under his control. When the opposite of this happens, your friendship may be broken. When you make friends with those below you, you may try to keep them under your control.
